Stephen Lisney is a self-taught printmaker experimenting with a variety of techniques, including reduction linocut, drypoint engraving, and white-line woodcut. He enjoys the fact that each technique brings its own special character to the final image.

Influences on his work include early 20th C illustrators of private press books, the linocut prints of the Grosvenor School artists, the St. Ives Modernists, and the work of the Clevedon-based painter Doris Hatt (1890-1969), whose work deserves to be better known.
