| Welcome | ||
| Clevedon Art Club has been working successfully since 1955 promoting general interest in art and the practice of visual arts. Our flourishing membership comprises both amateur and professional artists, “Sunday” painters, sculptors, wood carvers, designers and people of all ages who simply have an interest in Art. We aim to cover a wide range of interests, including painting, drawing, learning about art history, seeing what contemporary artists are doing, providing advice and simply enjoying the world of artistic endeavour. We are based in Clevedon, which is a seaside town in North Somerset in the west of England, and we draw our members from all over North Somerset and beyond. You do not have to be a top flight artist to join, although you will be welcomed if you are, nor do you have to wait to be invited. You just have to be interested in the subject and there is no selection. Monthly MeetingsWe have regular meetings throughout the year, usually on the second Tuesday of the month (except August) from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. We have illustrated talks on famous painters, art history, demonstrations of oil painting, watercolours and acrylics, stage design, art education and presentations by professional artists of their own work.Location: St. Mary's Church Hall, Castle Road, Clevedon
ExhibitionsWe run two major exhibitions in Clevedon every year - an "Open", where anyone can submit their work. for selection, and a "Members", which is limited to members of the Club. We are able to exhibit about 300 works at the "Open" and 200 at the "Members". Taken together, we get up to 2000 visitors a year.The Open Exhibition takes place in August in the Science Block Atrium at Clevedon Community School, Valley Road, Clevedon. The Members' Exhibition takes place in late October / early November at the Masonic Hall, Albert Road, Clevedon Our members also take part in many other exhibitions in the region and some are successful with their submissions to the Royal West of England Academy events. Getting a Second OpinionWe also have "Crit" evenings, where members can benefit from informal appraisals of their work by fellow members and, once a year, we ask a well known professional to appraise our work all together. It is not as frightening as it sounds and can be very informative and encouraging.Locations: Clevedon Community Centre, Princes Road, Clevedon St. Mary's Church Hall, Castle Road, Clevedon Painting DaysWe do not run painting classes as such, but some members like to paint together and we have about six painting days a year, sometimes as workshops with a tutor. Each artist follows their own path, but with the support of others. There are other informal opportunities to paint together at different locations in the area.Location: Clevedon Craft Centre, Moor Lane, Clevedon Visiting ExhibitionsWe organise coach trips to major exhibitions, for example, to the Royal Academy of Arts in London or to Cardiff or Birmingham. We have been known to venture as far as Amsterdam and Paris for a few days. UK trips are normally on a Saturday.FriendshipPainting can be a solitary business. Clevedon Art Club offers the opportunity to make new friends with a shared interest in Art. |
