Capturing a Likeness in Drawing with Ian Price

  • clevedon yacht club (map)

Ian will help you to capture a likeness of the sitter and help you with the handling of charcoal or pencil.

As part of our new series called the ‘Peer to Peer Sessions’ which enables some of our Club Members, who are Commercial Tutors and Artists, to show their skills, tips and tricks to other members.

Ian has been a club member for over 15 years and has exhibited widely, locally with the RWA and in the Mall Galleries, London.

The day will be suitable for beginners or more experienced artists. This is an ideal introduction to a later course Ian is running on Capturing a likeness in Paint where a similar approach is taken using oil paint (or acrylic) directly.

You will be working from a clothed portrait model with the inherent exciting challenge of converting a real-life 3D breathing person into a 2D image.

The fundamental of getting a likeness in drawing doesn’t have to be complicated; this will be a plumbline free zone. The overriding aim is to really look at the model and put down what you are seeing. This is easier said than done but Ian will share many techniques to help you check your own work as you go so you will then be able to apply them to your work at home.

The room opens at 9.30am. Session starts at 10.00am

Location: Clevedon Sailing Club, The Beach, Clevedon BS21 7QU

Cost: Members £40, Buy tickets here
