"I studied Painting at the Central School of Art and Royal College of Art in London, and became a Royal West of England Academician in 1996. I work in mixed media with collage as an important element. Collage is great for provoking unexpected imagery and even themes, and for adding incidental colour, pattern and texture to a work. It can also provide a link with contemporary social and cultural issues. For me, painting is a way of becoming intimate with the world. Through looking, remembering and imagining, and through the process of painting, I make connections with my subject. I may work through a particular theme in a series of paintings. Painting helps me to become more aware. When I find my mind drawn in and my heart touched I know I am looking at or listening to something good. I explore my passion for painting and my love of song, and hope that in some way these might bring happiness to other people."
