Jean Kent

Born in Birmingham in 1926, Jean was educated at the Girls High School, Sutton Coldfield before studying at Birmingham College of Art. She obtained a National Diploma in Design specialising in life painting, drawing and history of art, followed by a Teaching Diploma and began a career teaching Art at a local grammar school.

A move from the Midlands to the South West in 1971 provided fresh opportunities forher to paint again in earnest. She coupled this with teaching both painting and pottery to adult groups through further education classes in North Somerset.

Jean has been an active member of Clevedon Art Club for the last 40 years, many of these as Club Chairperson. She paints through a range of media but during recent years has specialised in pastel painting which she finds both versatile and exciting. Her work has been displayed at the Pastel Society annual exhibitions in The Mall Gallery,London, The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol and in many exhibitions across Somerset as well as featuring in a book on Pastel Painting.
